Frequently Asked Questions About Al-pac

1. Can I do this myself?
The Al-pac was designed with the do-it-yourselfer in mind. Generally speaking, two to four people can easily assemble an Al-pac building kit. No building member is more than 75 lbs** and our bolt-together design eliminates any welding.

** The 30' & 40' long buildings should be assembled by a professional builder since a lifting device is needed.

*** Please be aware that the package that the Al-pac building kit arrives in weighs from 2500-7500 lbs.

2. How long does it take to complete the kit?
Your Al-pac arrives ready to be assembled on your concrete slab or foundation. Assembly time depends upon building size and the number of options you have included. An experienced crew can assemble the Al-pac in two days, and the average person(s) usually in a couple of weekends.

3. Can I pour my own concrete slab?
We suggest you have the concrete slab poured by a professional. Unless you are familiar with your local building codes, soil conditions, and have the equipment needed to level the area where you intend to locate your slab this will be beyond the average persons capabilities. It is very important that the foundation be level and the anchor bolts be installed in the correct locations.

4. Can I assemble the galvanized structural floor kit myself?
Yes, but… the galvanized floor system is easy to assemble, but the I-beam members (skids) that the system rests upon weigh hundreds of pounds and you will need assistance (or machinery) moving and lifting them into place. It is very important that the foundation be level before you begin erection of your Al-pac. Because of all of this, we suggest you have a professional set up your foundation.

5. Are the 3' X 7' door and two windows shown in the virtual tour included in the "standard" Al-pac kit?
No. All doors and windows are options and not included in the standard Al-pac building kit except for the 12’ x 12’ which does include a 4’ x 7’ door.

6. Can I relocate the overhead door?
Not without checking with one of our Technical Service Representatives. Each building has been pre-engineered to withstand 110mph wind load and 30psf (or40psf) roof live load. A framed opening (overhead door) cannot be randomly moved without affecting the structural integrity of the building.

7. Does the Al-pac come with the overhead door?
No, at this time we do not provide overhead doors. We suggest that overhead doors be purchased and professionally installed by an overhead door manufacturer (such as Overhead Door Company) due to the complexity of the task. See www.overheaddoor.com for your local dealer or check your yellow pages for a manufacturer 0f your choice.

8. Can the roof slopes be greater than _ on 1/2 or 2 on 12?
No, this building is a kit and all parts and pieces have been standardized.

9. Can the 10' height of the wall be less or greater?
No, this building is a kit and all parts and pieces have been standardized.

10. What tools are necessary to assemble the kits?
A complete list of assembly tools is located in the assembly manual. See Support Resources for a downloadable assembly manual.

  1. Motor Freight.
  2. Factory Pick-Up

12. How long does it take once the order is placed to manufacture the building?

13. In what colors does it come in?

*We will gladly send you a color chart upon request. Go to Contact Info to submit your request.

14. How much does the Al-pac weigh?
Depending upon size of building and number of accessories between 2500-7500 lbs.

15. How long must a trailer be to transport an Al-pac?
The size of your trailer is dependent upon over-hang restrictions on your route of travel. Depending on which model you purchase the longest member in an Al-pac kit is 24 feet.

16. Can I add on to the building at a later time?
Yes, Al-pac roof extensions and canopy kits can be added later. Contact us for availabilities.
